Hi,
I wanted to attest my documents( birth certificate, passport etc). My husband got it signed by a Doctor. He has signed with his seal mentioning BSc MBBS AMA ONGC. But there is no seal as attested or mentioning that it is a copy of the original and he had seen it. Will this be accepted as attested document or do I need to get it attested by someone else.
BTW what does AMA and ONGC means? In chennai where can I get the documents attested?

Academic query.Any Gazetted officer can attest the certificates.If it bears the signature and seal it is sufficient.

Hi Sirs,
Thank you very much for your reply.But it is not clear. Please let me know if it is OK if there is no seal as ATTESTED.
Please explain me what does AMA and ONGC means. I wanted to make sure that my documents are attested. This was signed by a private Doctor, who's seal has BSc MBBS, AMA - ONGC.

Attestation from private doctor will not do. Get fresh photocopies attested from any Gazetted officer. There is a long list of gazetted officers, consult any one of them.

However, ONGC doctor is not a Gazetted officer.

Any private doctor or even if employed in ONGC is not a Gazetted Officer.
About your query, "AMA ONGC" stands for "Authorised Medical Attendant for employees of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd."
You will have to get the documents attested by any Gazetted Government Officer.

As I am a foreigner, I wanted to make sure that I get my non educational documents attested by the correct person.
Please advice if notary public can attest my documents. This is for migration purposes. Meanwhile please do advice me if an AE of BSNL or AE of Electricity Board can attest my documents.

I doubt, if attestation by notary public can work for the purpose of migration if the documents are required to be submitted to some Government organisation. So far as the AE of BSNL or of Electricity Board are concerned, bit are not gazetted officers being employed in public sector enterprises. Gazetted Officers are available in Government's own departmental offices. However, you may better get the documents attested by Magistrate First Class in the court of law.

First of all your query is not legal one.
Secondly, if on reply by members, you still have doubt about attestation, you may better contact the immigration department to check, if attestatiob by doctor of ONGC, AE of BSNL, AE of Electricity Board or Notaly public can serve their purpose or not. Otherwise, no answer to your seemingly academic query can remove your doubt.

The prescribed forms for emigration indicate the Authorities from whom u should get the copies attested.

Author Mrs. Kumar, The authorised medical attendant of ONGC or AE of BSNL or EB are not gazetted officers hence not authorised to attest the documents. A post master or a High School Headmaster or a Tahsildar or Public Prosecutor or an Administrative Officer of Court or a Notary Public or class I Officer of State or Central Government offices can attest. Hope you are cleared now?
