Can an Indian citizen have a dual citizenship?

(Querist) 28 December 2010 This query is : Resolved
Dear experts kindly opine on the following:-
1.Whether an Indian Citizen can have dual citizenship?
2.If so, which country's law will be applicable to him in civil and criminal cases?
3.If not, and if he somehow obtains another country's citizenship based on that country's law, whether he will forego his Indian Citizenship?
Thanks in advance.

India has not so far agreed to allow dual citizenship to its citizens. Therefore if a citizen of India wishes to acquire citizenship of another country he has to necessarily give up his Indian Citizenship. But, as per the recent policy of the Govt of India a person so obrtaning the foreign citizenship can apply for issue of OCS card, which entitles him to enter the country (India) as many times as he desires wihtout visa and also acquire properties and engage in business activities etc. For more details u may see the web site of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce of the Govt of India.
