Respected sir,
I would like to know the differences between challan & chargesheet.
It is generally said that Investigation Officer of Police has submitted challan to the Hon'ble Court.
What does it mean???
Does it mean - investigation has been ended in chargesheet? Then, what is challan & what is chargesheet???
I will be thankful, if following is clarified:
What is "FRT" & what is "FRM" in police language?
I shall be highly oblized if my doubts/queries are dispelled.
Thanking you in advance

After the investigation in an offence is completed, the officer in charge of the police station files the chargesheet u/s.173 crpc in the court of a Magistrate empowered to take cognizance of the offence on a police report, in a form prescribed by the State Government, stating—
(a) the names of the parties;
(b) the nature of the information;
(c) the names of the persons who appear to be acquainted with the circumstances of the
case;
(d) whether any offence appears to have been committed and, if so, by whom;
(e) whether the accused has been arrested;
(f) whether he has been released on his bond and, if so, whether with or without sureties;
also the statements recorded u/s.161.
The word 'challan' is used for 'chargesheet' in north indian states, in all other states the word 'chargesheet' is used.
