pl. advise whether giving the letter of joining given by the employee is sufficient to form a binding contract in reply to an offer of appointment or a formal letter of appointment is necessary to form a contract.

The letter of joining confirms the contract. Appointment letter is not necessary.

Mr.sanjai its depends upon the circumstances. Your stated facts little incomplete. A valid contract mean there should be a lawful OFFER AND ACCEPTENCE. Without offer acceptence alone is not valid. Simply says mean '' an agreement which is enforceable by law between two peoples'' its called contract.
