service tax

(Querist) 14 September 2009 This query is : Resolved
Does service tax is liable for leasing the home appliances like furnitures? is there any SC judgement on this aspect?riven
KUMAR JAGADEESAN (Expert) 14 September 2009
Please clarify whether renting of furniture etc was in connection with renting of immovable property. Even if the rental/ lease agreement splits the consideration , it has been held that that the gross value received would be considered liable to service tax.

On the contrary if the furnitures/ home appliances alone are rented there is no service tax at present as it does not fall in the taxable service as of now.
