Is there any source where I can get the definition of 'ORDER' and how a order is to be written..
I have a query can a correspondence between SDM and Police officers regarding a case which is disposed be termed as an order?

No, it is not an order but an official communication.
You may apply for the same under RTI Act if the said information is not injurious to the proper investigation of the case.

Although it has no relevance with regards to facts stated by you but word "order"has been defined in section 2(14)of C.P.C to read as"order" means the formal expression of any decision of a Civil Court which is not a decree;however this is very specific definition.
While the word does have a broader meaning than one stated here.So an order should be understood to be a mandate which a court or government or it's officer can pass under law to a person or their subordinate as a mandate which requires to be obeyed.

As stated by Shri Prabhakar,in the context of court matters, the word order is defined in section 2(14) of CPC. CrPC does not contain any definition of the word. But the meaning assigned in the CPC may be applied. Any order passed by court demands compliance from the parties concerned and disobedience or non compliance may result in punitive action by the court- such as contempt of court etc. Correspondence between the SDM and the Police cannot be regarded as order, unless it contains a direction to take action.
