Dishonoured cheque - bank not mentioning valid reason

(Querist) 30 December 2017 This query is : Resolved
I presented a cheque to my bank which has been dishonoured and the reason mentioned in the memo is eKYC await - present again.
As far as I have read, this reason is not mentioned in the list issued by R.B.I for returning the cheque and bank should have mentioned a more valid reason to return the cheque.
Also the sender of the cheque has corporate account so I dont think bank can freeze his account and return the cheque just because KYC is not updated.

Also Is it a valid reason (eKYC await - present again) to initiate legal proceedings against the person who gave me this cheque?

it means electronically know your customer (EKYC). you approach the bank manager with a written complaint. If you are not receiving proper reply, then consult a lawyer and act accordingly

Not a case of non mention of reason. But reason is very much there. It is a case of KYC having not got authenticated by the account holder.

Although a shortcut, but, "eKYC wait" is a valid reason. Above experts have appropriately explained.
