Divorce

(Querist) 01 January 2013 This query is : Resolved
I wish to understand the procedure to apply for divorce in case of contested one.
I want to separate since I am the victim of physical and emotional abuse. How difficult is the divorce like and what can be the maximum duration?

Also, till the time divorce is going on, am I not free to be with any other person. Will that be adultery?

The procedure to apply for divorce is to engage a lawyer and instruct him to file a divorce petition in the court on your behalf.

Since you are a victim of physical and mental abuse you may file a petition for divorce on the ground of cruelty. Contested divorces are a long drawn affair and never easy to get.

You may live with another man without divorce but your paramour will be liable to prosecution for adultery.
