Domicile Certificate

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 29 April 2010 This query is : Resolved
Hi,
I have been a resident of Maharashtra since the past 25 years and have recently applied for a domicile certificate since it is required for CET.While filling up the domicile form,in response to the question 'For what purpose do yoy require domicile' I have written 'Education".Now the CET rules says that domicile by residence only is valid.Domicile Certificate indicaring domicile for 'Educationurposes" will not be valid. Is there any way I can change the reason on the domcile application form?(I have not yet received the domicile certificate).

YOU MAY APPROACH THE AUTHORITIES WITH THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT YOU HAVE AND GET THE POINT CLEARED FROM THEM.BUT KINDLY NOTE THAT DOMICILE CERTIFICATE IS REGARDING DOMICILE IN ANY PARTICULAR AREA FOR ANY PERIOD, THE AUTHORITIES WILL CERTIFY THE SAME.
THANKS.

To my understanding, the domicile for 'education purposes' means students staying in a state for their study. As you had been staying there for past 25 years, I think your certificate of domicile (until and unless it is written as staying for education) will be valid for applying CET. However, it is advisable to cross-check with the authorities regarding this and also apply afresh (if there is no impediment to do).
