Dual citizenship

During theBJP regime there was a talk that persons of indian origin settled abroad can get indian citizenship without relinquishing the citizenship of the country where he is living.isthere any Act passed by the Parliment? Name of the Act? Enlighten .

The Act is the Citizenship (Amendment)Act 2005.

Yes. In the Amendment made in 2005 - insertiton of Section 7A deals with it.

Section 7A(a)(iv) Registration of overseas citizens of India.-The Central Government may, subject to such conditions and restrictions as may be prescribed, on an application made-in this behalf, register as an overseas citizen of India who is a child or a grandchild of such a citizen.

According to this amendment, a child or grand child of a citizen of India, though residing in a foreign country can apply for Citizenship in India
