Entry of niece in service record

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 30 March 2022 This query is : Resolved
I am a railway servant and soon to be retired, being female whether I can keep my niece (Daughter of younger brother) with me
My brother and his wife has been living with me at present
I just want my niece to be well benefited with my railway service perks without damaging her future claim on property of biological parents as well as parental right on daughter, kindly guide as I am not married and want my niece financially secure whether I would be or not in future and my niece would not have to be compromised with education on financial ground

Well. You can file the list of your family members list, and in it, you may mention your parents' names and the niece's name as being a daughter compulsorily. As you are unmarried, you may also mention the other members such as your brother like that.

What is the age of your niece for the purpose of adoption?
Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 02 April 2022
It is soon to be completed 2 years , whether adoption is an ultimate option, I neither want her to lose any right on her parental property or whatsoever technical legal-issues, I only want her to be secured in future with the service of my post-retirement benefit like, railway pas/family pension etc.

Adoption is your choice and not compulsory. You may mention your niece's name with a guardian name as your niece is a minor.

Niece do not come within the definition of "Family" for pension or pensionary benefits. Of course, the niece could be nominee for GPF or arrears of pay and allowances.
Dr J C Vashista (Expert) 14 April 2022
A childless employee may adopt a child and nominate him/ her in service dossier for proper disbursement of retirement / death benefits.

without damaging her(my niece) future claim on property of biological parents as well as parental right on daughter
Importance of child adoption or nomination

Dr J C Vashista (Expert) 15 April 2022
After completion of adoption process the minor (adopted child) steps in the estate of his / her adoptive parents and he /she has no right, interest, claim or title in his / her biological parents.
