My nephew beat me up yesterday in a family quarrel over property. To ensure that if any such incident takes place again, can I lodge an FIR or do something so that if I have to call the police on 100 No. or through police station, I am justified or it makes my case stronger.

You can lodge an NC Complaint in the police station if you are looking for only deterent action.
The police will issue notice to the accused person and repetetino of the offence even after notice will attract stricted actions from the police.

Thank you all for the response - So I should just write an application on plain paper and go to the police station and say that I want to file an NC complaint. Not sure what NC complaint is but I really want to file for making myself safer in the future

NC complaint means complaint regarding Non-Cognizable offences.
You just have to visit the police station and report the incident to the police officer. No need to write an application or letter. Just tell the police orally and they will note down in the proper format.
If you have suffered any injury, whether minor or major, you can show the medical report of the same to the police. That can give your complaint more wightage.
