(Querist) 21 September 2010 This query is : Resolved
is there any law which prevents a pensioner's joint savings account with spouse being attached by a court or blocked by a bank ? if so please quote the section of the law.
if it can be blocked under which section and for what reasons ?

The Pension amount cannot be attached by anyone i.e. to say that none, including a court, can order the employer to deposit the pension amt.to a creditor in discharge of a debt. However, this rule does not apply to the Savings Bank A/C. just because the pension amt. is being deposited in that A/C.

Normally a pensioner's account is blocked only in case of non submission of Life Certificate. Please check up with the bankers.
