Green Card question

(Querist) 15 November 2010 This query is : Resolved
My entire family with US citizenship and OCI status moved back from the US 1.5 years ago. My wife received her green card 1 year before we left the US. Before departing, we obtained a work permit for her which allowed her to stay outside the US for 2 years which is expiring on Jan 2011. She can travel to the US once before that to keep her green card status active, but then what after that since her green card is valid only for 3 years? Is there any long term solution to this problem or does it mean she will have to keep making a trip to the US once every year to keep her status active? Can't we apply for a US citizenship for her since she's married to a US citizen who is now living in his country of birth due to the nature of his work and also has children who are US citizens as well?

Dear Mr. Jain,
The requirement for visiting US at periodical intervals is the requirement of U.S. for keeping the green card alive. It is not the requirement of India.
You better check up with your U.S. friends the requirement and any other option.
