While firm is a business entity, there is no difference in the terms change in constitution or change of constitution of a firm in that respect. Your presumption is correct that any change from properietorship to partnership or vice versa is known as change in constitution.

There is lot of difference between change in constitution and change of constitution in the light of your subsequent status. Change in constitution shall occur when the basic constitution is maintained and any of its term is changed whereas change of constitution means its entire replacement such as proprietorship firm is changed into a partnership firm or vice-versa.
