Some people from building causing damage to car

Dear Experts,
I have a car which is parked in the alloted parking space in the society compound.
Somebody purposely broke the headlight of the car. The security guards have rotating shifts. Everyone is saying that it dint happen when he was around.
I have not yet approached the insurance company. I may or may not get a claim. But my question is, dont I have any right to lodge a police complaint against anyone. I have strong doubt, that this has been done by someone purposefully.
Kindly guide.

every security gaurd tries to cover his ass . if you go to police they will say it is a minor issue please dont involve us in the matter .
compalin to the secretary of your society in writing requesting him to tick off the security gaurds so that tomorrow more cars dont get damaged . today your car headlight got damaged tomorrow cars may be stolen .
suggest installation of cc tv camera s in society compaound to catch the culprits

Yes you can lodge complaint with Police which however is not likely to nab the culprit.
You better claim insurance and park the car to some other safe place if such nuisance is likely to happen again.

THanks to all the experts.
I wanted to ask, if the police says its a minor issue, then are they trying to suggest that we fight with the culprits on our own ?? We as civlized people cannot go beyond a certain point in fighting someone.
Whats your opinion ??

Police can not say so.
If the event is repeated and you could show some more proofs of involvement of culprits the Police is bound to take action.
Else the court of Magistrate is always there to obtain necessary directions upon the Police for causing appropriate investigation.

Thanks for your Advise, Barman Sir.
Actually I remember some boys from the building sitting on my car few days back and I had asked the security to not allow them to sit on the car again.
Although, I am not totally sure, there is a small possibility of those guys getting angry and doing this.
Also, I have parked the car in the space alloted to my by society. I am not allowed to park it anywhere else. Thats why I was seeking help if Police can intervene and resolve.
Thanks again for your help and guidance. More advices are welcome from experts.

what you should do is in the AGM raise the issue of security in society .
if your car is only one that is being damaged society may not take action . but if more cars are damaged then society may be forced to install CCTV cameras on representaion by members .
practical problem being faced is police are understaffed . they have to investigate number of serious offences . they are generally reluctant to intervene in disputes in society unless its a major issue . your headlight being damaged would be one of the issues wherein cops would be disinclined to act

You should not unnecessarily create bitter relations in neighbours but this is equally important to save you and your property from such goonda elements. Meet higher ups of police authorities.

I completely agree with creating smooth relations with neighbours. And thus am confused what to do ? A direct fight will create bitter relations. But also I cannot afford to face financial loss.
