Though in Tax and Investment. I am a lay man
But I will say that
1] If you invest in FDR etc, it's interest will be added in income of this 18L & u will loose 1.8Lx 20% = app 30k
2] you have to pay high tax on VRS TAXABLE,
3] IF YOU INVEST IN FLAT OR PROPERTY, AND ALSO AVAIL BANK LOAN, SAY OF 10L, it is best
Because you get refund ot Tax paid, + your installment, interest paid on housing loan get rebate, non taxable
+ Safety and security of Property is very high, compared to high interest paying co-op bank of credit society.
Giving on Personal money lending to businessman yield good return at very high risk. U may loose entire money. Shares are too, very risky.

cnsidering all these, if u invest say 25L [incl loan] in Property, it's rising at current rate of last 2 years, , We expect the value of Flat will be 50L in another 4 years+ you get regular rent , that can be used to pay installment of 10L + small expenses.

Appreciation in property is Tax Free. , untill you sell it. So again no tax.

Income on FDR ETC IS TAXED.
APPRECIATION IS SURE AND UNACCOUNTED INCOME!! TAX FREE AND CAN REALISE ANY TIME

invest 40%of your funds in Balanced funds/diversifed funds rest in debts .

since yur father mst be around 60 years old he must have 60 %in debt . however some exposure to equity is necessary for growth of portfolio

invest in Monthly income schemes wherein you get assured returns per month . some amount can be invested in fixed deposits for liquidity .
