1. As a 73 year old person with son and daughters older than you, I decided to reply after some thinking as this is a sensitive issue.
2. My daughter is working Toronto Genereal Hospital, Canada. When I was there, she told me that the Hospital was objecting to her earing a bindi whcih is a must for all married Hindu women. She was also asked not to wear the saree in the operation theater. We are from very traditional family.I asked her to follow the hospital dress code strictly.
3. Yes, India unlike many other countries is a proud secular State.Secularism means respect to all religions; it also means scientific temper; it also means that India is against obscurantism.
4. Yes, you have every right to wear whatever dress or veil you want to wear. No body can impose their dress code on you in your private life. But you have also no right to impose your dress code on others in professional matters.
5 One wonderful girl from Hyderabad, her name is also Fatima, has qualified to become a pilot, her childhood dream. This has come in newspapers. Can she insist on wearing a burqah or saree in a cockpit?Women also are joining fighting forces in India. Can they wear whatever they want to on religious grounds. Or Sania Mirza on tennis court?

Dear Fathima Khan,
I appreciate your thoughts.
You can practice in any court, but you have to follow the dress code laid by the Bar council. You practice parda, but in the court hall you can not cover your face. You know or you don't know the meaning of Hijab. For muslim women covering her head with cloth is enough for observing parda, covering face is not mandatory. You are hereby advised to follow the dress code of Bar council, but cover your head with cloth except your face. No body will object. For any more information and guidance you may contact me at Hyderabad.
