DEAR EXPERTS I AM LIVING IN MUMBAI AND DOING BUSINESS OF SALE/ PURCHASE OF HUTS AND EARNING LITTLE BIT MONEY. NOW POLICE CALLED ME IN POLICE SATATION AND FORCED TO DISCLOSE THE NAMES OF SALE PURCHASE PARTIES RIGHT AND IN FUTURE ALSO
SIR THIS IS MY WORK AND MY PARTIES CAN LOSE CONFIDENT ON ME IF I DO AS PER THEIR INSTRUCTION U ALL KNOW THAT GAME OF MONEY PLEASE TELL ME IS THERE ANY CIRCULAR FOR THIS PURPOSE OR WHAT ARE THEIR RIGHTS PLEASE HELP ME

Ask the Police why are they asking for it?
In search of criminals they may ask for it but not for ever unless any legislation is passed.

Ans : Are you not informing these details to the authorities of Income Tax and Service tax.
You are confirming that you are providing your services to those parties who do not want that there whereabouts should be disclosed and Police is hell bent to know these details.
Your confidence in trade has nothing to do with the police. The have duty to protect law and order and not your business (which otherwise does not appear to be fully legal).
YOU ARE DISCLOSING THAT YOU ARE PROVIDING SERVICES TO THOSE PERSONS WHO DO NOT LIKE POLICE TO KNOW THEIR DETAILS.
Going on your anology someone may claim that he will sell narcotics in his kiosk and will lose confidence if compelled to disclosed details of his suppliers and customers.
Even a taxi driver who carries passenger to a few Km for few minutes can be asked by the police to disclose whatever details he knows.

Ans : You can seek such circular by putting RTI application to the police. You will then by most enlightened person.
you are selling residential units? even a tennant cannot be kept on the promise of anonymity.
even a vendor or mechanic cannot enter a society without disclosing identity though visiting to provide lawful service to lawful residents.
Right of Police ............?
all that they need is to find one terrorist or other heinous criminal who says, or made to say, (police knows how to make one to say what they want), that you provided him shelter for executing crime on the promised of non-disclosure.
Police has statutory power that they cannot be compelled to disclose source of information and you have no such power.

Duty of Police is to protect law and order. If they have smelled something wrong they have power to investigate. Cooperate them.
