Change of name

(Querist) 15 June 2014 This query is : Resolved
Sir,
I am a third year student of engineering and have a single name. I wish to adopt my father's sirname. For the same i have prepared an affidavit and also published in newspaper. Now i am not able to understand how to go about the process of notification in gazette of Jharkhand. Kindly help.

It would be very kind of you if you could also give me an insight into the implications of name change at this stage as i have one more year to complete my degree. Does this name change have any implication on visa grant process if i wish to pursue my higher studies abroad?

Thankin you in advance.

dear Tushar, why do you want to add your father name in this stage?
after publish in gazette you should contact all the department from where you have get any certificate.

You should contact the concerned office for publication in the gazette.

The concerned embassy may raise objection, however, mostly they avoid such objections.

You should contact the concerned university for adding surname in your certificates.

This is as good as change of name and the procedure to be followed for this is to make an affidavit to this effect, duly notarized, publish the same in tow leading local news paper (one in vernacular language and another in English), call on the Government Press situated in your state capital, fulfill the formalities meant for the purpose, get your desired name published in the gazette on an application along with the supporting documents. After gazette publication start using your new name in all the places. Let the certificates remain in the older name itself, carry a copy f your gazette publication along with you to prove and confirm the difference in names.

Thank You Experts for your advise. It was indeed very helpful of all of you.

There's another thing that's troubling me. I am in a dilemma whether to get my change of name published in my state gazette, that would be Jharkhand, or get it published in the gazette of India. Is there any difference in the acceptibility of the two when considering pursuing higher studies abroad??
Tushar (Querist) 20 June 2014
and in context of advise by Mr. R .K. Goyal sir, could you please elaborate on the questions that may be raised by the respective embassies.
It'l help me be prepared from beforehand.

It shall be better to insert the publication of change of name in State Gazette. Practically there is no much difference. Embassies do regard even the State Gazette, moreover, after publication in the Gazette, you have to approach the concerned university to incorporate change and to re-issue fresh certificate which shall not entangle embassy.
