Farming land and becoming farmer

I am not farmer. But if someone give me land as a gift, can I become farmer?

Almost Agriculture is in Soup in India Now.If you get an Agriculture Land as Gift due to some reasons like Restrictions of Selling the Agriculture Land Legally No One could stop you and No restriction on branding your self as Farmer.

Local rules applicable, discuss with local lawyer.

In some states, for purchasing agricultural land, one need not be a farmer.

Which state he belong and in which state he want to purchase agr. land?

Whether land to be gifted is in the same state in which agricultural land is to be purchased?
