is asking bank account number illegal?

But I think you are telling lesser and suppressing more. Can you tell us detail of whole dispute and action taken against you so that we may tell you exact reply.

whatever may be the circumstances,there is nothing illegal in asking the bank account number and monthly salary.

However asking of monthly salary of a person is not a good manner unless justified by some formal purpose.

as replied by Mr.Raj, i do feel,there is something more to your query,as normally such questions alone are not of a provocative nature.
