Land rights

(Querist) 03 January 2014 This query is : Resolved 
An agricultural land owner objected to an electrical cable being laid at a depth of 4 feet from the surface which anyway will not affect his crops.

The question is :

Upto what depth does the owner of the land from the surface have legal rights.

The land owner cannot object if there is no other easier way of transmission, but he is entitled for compensation.
