Hi,
I have a property whose lease I am getting registered. I am told by the agent executing the deed that I need to be present with original property documents. My documents are present in some other city thus would take time to reach. Is there any other way I could complete the registration of he deed without having the original property docs in person? Say get a copy of the property docs authorized or something?
Kindly Help.

I do not know why the original documents are necessary, for registering the lease deed?

Well...the agent tells me in that by looking at the property papers only would the people at the registry office verify that I am the owner of the property whose lease i am getting registered.

It is none of the job of the Registry to verify the veracity of the ownership of any property. If the property is not yours and if the lessee suffers, he will sue you. Registrar will not be sued. The Agent is absolutely wrong. In fact if you go to the registrar's office and if any one asks you for original deed, you can question them on what basis they are asking for it?

May be agent or lessee him self wants to verify the genuineness of your ownership under the disguised statement that sub-registrar will ask.
You can not deny to lessees verification.
