Admission cancellation by university

I got admission for PhD course in a deemed university by clearing written exam and interview.
I attended the classes and completed the course work. I also submitted my synopsis.
However after 13 months, the university has sent me a letter stating that my admission stands cancelled as I was not qualified for such course.
On being enquired they have admitted their department's mistake verbally but also said that it is the responsibility of the candidate to check the eligibility criteria in the propectus before applying for any course.
Pls guide the suitable course of action and a good advocate for Punjab & haryana high court.
