Dear Mr. Ajit, When you talk about a Firm, it is a partnership. Agreed. If so, you have to enter into a partnership Agreement. Then you have to get the partnership firm registered with the Registrar of Firms relating to the area in which the Partnership Firm would be based. Thereafter you have to obtain a PAN Number in the name of Partnership Firm. You also have to open a Bank Account in the name of the Partnership Firm.

for a proprietary nature law firm you even do not need to do all that suggested by Mr.Ramachandran ,that all is applicable to a PARTNERSHIP FIRM. FOR a proprietary nature law firm you even do not need registering it under Bombay Shop Act ,as our profession is not a business.

The professional activity of a law practitioner is not included in the definition of "commercial establishment". So, there is no requirement for registration.
