dear sir this a case which happened to one of my relative whose wife committed suicide after merely six month after their getting married first the mother of the girl did not file any complain for three days and when the boy's family returned after performing some religious rituals they registered a complaint .though the mother and father of the boy got bail from the session court but the bail of the boy was rejected hence he got bail from high court after he was given 14 judicial custody .the medical , postmortem ,and visra reports have come which does not implicate anyone from boys side , now the charge sheet of police is still awaited recent development has taken place the girl mom has demanded the return of stri dhan through a lawyers notice . i would like to know what is the merit in this case and what should be their action regarding stri dhan and what does law say in this regard as the boy's family want to return all the stuff of the deceased

it is doubtful they will agree to any settlement . the fact that they filed police complaint after suicide of their daughter and also issued legal notice for return of streedhan shows that they do not trust the family at all . wait for charge sheet to be filed . if at all there is settlement you cna move for quashing of the complaint

Rightly advised by Shri Ajay Sethi. Being a police case, even if the inlaws prefer to make out of court settlement, the police may not allow that. These things could well have settled prior to FIR, as they would have approached your friend's family for return of streedhan. Needless to mention, refusal from your friend's family to return the streedhan would have prompted them to register a case.

in the given circumstances the experts have rightly advised that possibility of out of court settlement is bleak, the case has to be defended.
