differance between suit for partation & suit for division

a property self accquired by my father gifted to me and my brother by a reg gifit deed jointly we want to divide shares but my brother is not coming forword to divide our shares what shold i do shall i go for partation or division

file a suit for partition and separate possession.

The law recognises only the suit for partition. After getting the preliminary decree go for final decree by metes and bounds.
