Working hours in a BPO industry is determined by the employer based on the terms and conditions prescribed in the employment unlike any other organised employment.

no. i do not agree. provision of shop and commercial act will apply and an employee can not be force to work more than 48 hours in a week. in case employer force the employee to work more then this period, he is liable to pay at the double rate of his ordinary wages i.e overtime wages.

I agree with Mr. Kirtikar. The shops and establishments Act is a State Specific Act and you refer your state Act to find out the number of working hours in a week an employee can be engaged. Generally it is 48 hours and weekly off is after continuous 6 days.
