what is the difference of lawyer and advocate
Guest (Expert) 14 March 2011
As per the Merriam Webster's Dictionary of Law, a "Lawyer" is one whose profession is to advise clients as to legal rights and obligations and to represent clients in legal proceedings, while an "Advocate" is an adviser to a party in law suit, or a counselor, or a person who works and argues in support of another's cause, esp. in court.

In other words there is no difference in their profession. Both are advisers and counselors and can represent his client in any law suit. So, some people call themselves as advocates while the others as lawyer.
