I would like to know if any official of any Government office like the Electricity board or water supply deptt, municipal board etc . can visit or enter one's private premises or residences for inspection at night?

generally inspection is done during day times . but if complaint received that there is theft of electricity etc they can take action against offenders

Thank u sir for d prompt reply. Actually there was no such thing. These people frm water supply deptt simply came at arnd 7 p.m. and asked for the Bills. They were asking questions which were irrelevant. We had proper connections and all dues paid upto date. They went away after dat. Interestingly their new head office would be running officially in our neighbourhood. At that time some pujas were going as well. My surmise that they were simply to "collect" money with one pretext or other. What legal action can be taken against them? Plz advice sir. Thnaking in anticipation

dont antoganise them . since they did not demand any money from you you cannot complain to anti corruption department .

The EB and Water department has every right to ask for the bills. If the parties not cooperating and refusing to give proper reply, the authority has every right to disconnect the service connection.

Right of entry is not denied bu if illegal demand is made, you have got right to challenge it by adopting various means.

Thank u all for the replies..wad i came to know that they were out to inspect in some of the households, barring a few. I agree that inspection can be carried out, but what of "official working hours"? In that case, every govt. deptt , at their own free will will have the "right" to make inspection even at the dead hour of night.
I was and and am not all confused as i had measured my words, i think i was quite clear in my words as most of the experts understood. No offence.

Unless there is a specific provision in the relevant law of the department concerned to enter, inspect or make a raid at any premises at any time on account of some illegal activity, no Government official can enter any house in odd time to disturb privacy of the households.
