Sir,
We have borrowed 2.5 lac in 2009 binding cheques, org.documents &others. In 2010, we paid the entire amt,with interest and got receipt at that time, when we asked our document, he said he would return it soon. But all of a sudden he issued legal notice to us, till now we nvr recd documents.

While settling the loan, you should have got back the cheque, or else you should have obtained the letter stating that the cheque is invalid.
Now there is every chance they may claim the cheque was issued for settling a different loan.

did the receipt mention that entire amount has been received in full and final settlement of the outstanding dues .
i hope you have in writing asked for return of original documents .
in reply to legal notice you mention that loan has been repaid in full and receipt has been given . request for return of original documents .

I am not sure what Mr. Maran says is complete facts.
He has not indicated the nature of legal notice received.
There is no point in answering such questions which do not reveal complete facts.

If you have repaid loan amount,do you have any receipt/documents or are you got notice for cheque bounce?send details by return mail for proper answer.

Like Mr. Ramachandran mine is also the habit not to think about what is not told to you.He could have very well told that they presented the checks ,got them bounced and then have served notice of demand,none of it he is saying,then how can we think these in assumptions.

Brother likely scenerios:
He issued you an receipt that entire amount is paid up, which you accepted as full and final and then he is trying to use those cheques to .extort money from you.
Lodge a complaint of cheating and extortion in such case and pursue it vigorously.
