Attestation power of a group a gazatted officer

Hi,
I would like to know if a correct doccument attested by a group a gazatted officer is denied by any institution or organisation,is there a law to sue that organisation.My bank has denied my address proof attested by a gazatted officer which clearly states my present address stating that the doccument i submitted is not in their list.I feel this as a complete harassment,so is there anything i could do legally on this?Please advise...

You obtain information under RTI Act in this regard from bank and then make a complaint to Ombudsman of banks of your nearest area. Bank shall have to follow law of land any cost and shall also have to pay loss, if incurred to you due to such refusal of acceptance of documents.

bank might not have denied the same because of attestation.
there are certain documents considered as valid for address proof. If your documents comes in that list specified by the bank as per rbi guidelines,bank will accept.
unless you specify the nature of documents submitted,it is futile to make further comment.

Thanks to everyone.I wanted to change my adress on my account as my husband is a Deputy Commandant in CISF,under MHA.We get transferred every few months & even in remote places (like we were even posted in kistwar dist of J&K)Currently we are in mathura..Our house is Govt Quarter,our telephone,electricity etc is paid by the govt.We have a gas connection but that is in my husbands name..So as an address proof a letter was issued by the MHA,attested by Assisstant Commandant.MY bank refused to accept it but the same doccument was accepted by SBI as address proof last year(when we were in delhi)to sanction a personal loan to my husband.Attestation means that the doccument stating the adress is correct so i want to know how can I get info on this..Bank wants me to do all communication through branch.now for every little thing I should travel from mathura to delhi.And sometimes where we r posted doesnt even have a branch...

I would also like to state that the bank refused to give in writing that they cannot accept my doccument...if the doccument is not valid then hat is the harm to give it in writing?????

Banks have a list of docs. which they are allowed to accept as proof of address. If your doc. does not come in the list, the bank is well within it's right not to accept it.

Dear Shailesh, full form of MHA is Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dear Arpita,
You can show the original of the allotment letter of your quarter along with the attested copy. After verifying the original it will be returned to you while they will keep the attested copy with the remarks 'seen the original and confirmed'.
Just because the bank is insisting on the original and does not accept only the attested copy, does not mean that they are disrespecting or disregarding the veracity of the Attestation itself. On the contrary, they have to fulfil the conditions of KYC norms.
I hope this clarifies the position.

I showed them the original copy...but they said that thy cannot accept it as it is not in their list but they refused to give it in writing..the only proof i hve is a recording of conversation with the agent...i m confused as sbi accepted the same doccument to sanction personal loan to my husband...

Then the Bank is absolutely wrong. You should approach the Branch Manager (instead of dealing with the Agent level). Otherwise make a complaint to the Bank Ombudsman and you will immediately get the relief.

It would be better for you to approach the Bank Manager and if that attempt fails then to approach the Bank Ombudsman. Approaching Consumer court will not fetch you any tangible results.

Yes consumer court can not provide you very effective relief,applying in writing about document with BM ,if he does not agree move to Ombudsman as advised.

So, It is better that you have to check bank list "Address Of Proof". And try to get/made accordingly.

if your document does not comes in their list,there is not point in wasting time,there at the branch. The bank manager has no descretionary power to accept document as per his choice.
he is only following the guidelines of rbi and his head office instructions.
unless an instruction comes from rbi for accepting your document as address proof,the concerned branch manager wont be able to help you.
