Registration of partition deed (if it effects an immovable property, worth more than Rs 100/-) was must since last more than 100 years and in all parts of India.

Partition may be oral and any memorandum of such oral partition already acted upon is not required to be registered.

Otherwise any partition in writing has always been required to be by a registered deed in respect of immovable worth over hundred rupees as rightly pointed out by Mr.J K Agrawal
