Query regarding taxation and excise laws

(Querist) 15 June 2013 This query is : Resolved
I want to inquire that whether excise and taxation are one thing or different
I mean to say that if one wants to do practice then excise is a different stream and taxation(including service tax, VAT etc) is different or same.
also i want to inquire that i have just completed my Law and taxation and excise were not my subjects
If i want to do practice in these fields then Shall i have to clear any more subjects of the related field
Thanks a lot

You are a law Graduate, better try to find out if there is a difference in excise and taxation or not.

You can practice if you have knowledge of the subject. Legally no separate degree / subject clearance is needed. Registration as Advocate will suffice.

It is very surprising that a lawyer is asking such question.

Anyway, follow the advice of Goyal.

Yes,
There are different branches under Direct & indirect taxation laws. You have to master each one of them if you desire to handle cases under State laws like State Excise, VAT,and Central laws like Central Excise,Service Tax,Customs & Income Tax laws. However, there are common concepts in case of commodity taxation, individual taxation and related assessment, appeal, review & revision procedures.
