Property

(Querist) 13 July 2013 This query is : Resolved
Can a "Karta" of hindu family sell the property(both ancestral and self acquired)for betterment of the family or clearance of debts?
Dr. Jyothi Vishwanath (Expert) 13 July 2013
Karta of the family can always sell his self-acquired property for any reason he wishes or for without reason.
He can sell ancestral property only for benefit of estate or legal necessity.
Now it depends what you mean by betterment of the family and
what type of debt it is and for what purpose it was taken.
R.K Nanda (Expert) 13 July 2013
yes, he can sell.
Adv Archana Deshmukh (Expert) 13 July 2013
Karta has the rights to sell for legal necessity.
