Issuing general power of attorney

(Querist) 19 July 2014 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to know if I can issue a General Power of Attorney to my friend (who is not a relative). Said POA shall be used for buying a apartment in Mumbai, to represent me in Banks, Govt. Departments, any other public or private institution etc and to submit and collect documents on my behalf. Exception would be to sell any immovable property on my behalf. Please advise.

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards
Prashant

In this case, it is a specific or special power of attorney and not a general power of attorney.

you have specifically say what are the acts that the agent can do on your behalf and what are not?
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 20 July 2014
You can execute a general power of attorney deed too in his favor mentioning all those acts besides other general acts to be done on your behalf.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 22 July 2014
It can very well be executed as desired.
