no, distence education in law is prohibited for being precticing lawyer.

No. In the given circumstances, your decree shall be acadamic and not professional and thus you can neither be enrolled as an advocate nor can practice.

I do agree with Mr Makkad.

First of all it has been repeated umpteen times in this forum that there is no LLB by distance mode. If you are so keen to do a law course, being an engineering graduate, you can do LLB with specialisation in IPR from IIT Kharagpur. The said LLB from IIT Kgp is meant only for engineering and science graduates and is a very good course. Further, there are certain areas of law in which only an engineering graduates or science graduates can practice for example patent law, Software Copyright etc. An engineering degree coupled with a LLB in IPR from IIT Kgp, you can rock.

I do agree with sanjeev. I pay special thanks to Sanjeev for updating me on this point.

@Makkad Sir: Dear Sir, thanks for appreciating me again. There are many areas of law where the Lawyers with the engineering background have edge over lawyer without engineering background. Like Software Copyright, Information Technology Laws etc. Once when I was dealing with the copyright infringement case, I had to sit with a computer engineer to understand the mechanism of software & how it was different from the software from which it is alleged to be copied so as to prepare the defense for my client who was fighting a false case of software infringement. If I would have been a software engineer or computer engineer, it would have been much easier for me to draft the defense and pursue the case in the court. Software Copyright is a grey area of law and the issue is not settled in even USA where there are conflicting judgments on the issues. See (1) Whelan Associates, Inc. v. Jaslow Dental Laboratories, Inc., 797 F2d 1222 (3d Cir. 1986), (2) E.F. Johnson Co., v. Uniden Corp. of America, 623 FSupp 1485 (D. Minn 1985) and (3) Computer Associates International, Inc. v. Altai, Inc., 982 F2d 693, 702 (2d Cir. 1992). The software copyright law requires the knowledge software engineering at an expert level plus the qualification in Law specially IPR. In India, I think there are very few lawyers who meet the standard.
