I am a Sunni Muslim boy resided in Nabha District Patiala Punjab & married with Hindu Girl. After marriage the girl changed his name & religion from Geeta Bhardwaz to Geeta Bhadwaz Khan. Now I want to got register my marriage Under Punjab Marriage registration Act. Will you please guide me as to whether the Muslim Marriages are registered in D.C. office or Tehsildar Office. What is the procedure & requirement for registration, whether the change of name is required to be published in News paper or no

Marriage Can be registered under the Special Marriage Act,1954. Section 15 of the said Act provides for Registration of any Marriage that was solemnized according to any form & get the benefits of the said civil marriage Act for future.

Addl. District Magistrate of the district is ex-officio Registrar of Marriages in Delhi which differ in some states. Get the marriage registered, it is better.
the provisions of SMA applies in the instant case.

In my opinion, the provisions of The Special marriage act will apply to this case, a personal enquiry with the marriage Registrar of your jurisdiction will clear all your doubts about this.

What transpires from your query that it was a inter religion marriage between a Muslim boy and hindu girl so legally it was required to be performed under Special Marriage act where registration is a rule of law and not a matter of procedure. So unless your marriage is performed and registered under Special Marriage Act It is illegal and void marriage since as stated by you girl changed her religion after marriage.

In case law laid in Special Marriage Act was followed registration under state's Act
is an optional matter.Since they are there to register ceremonial marriages.
