Under the Conduct Rules of Tamil Nadu Goverment Servants, if an employee acquires immovable property without the consent of his Head of the Department, what could be the maximum punishment ? Does the rule permits dismissal from service for such an offence ?

if there is any other proceedings under the prevention corruption or acquiring excess wealth are pending it may be a ground for dismissal. the maximum punishment will be under 17(B) charges only. other wise normal punishment like increment cut , no promotion, reversion etc.

Thanks Mr. Ganesan, As a retired Central Govt. Officer, I am also aware of conduct rules and I am sure that dismissal being a major penalty can not be imposed for acquiring immovable property without prior intimation and only minor punishment like censure, demotion, increment cut etc only can be awarded. I just wanted to confirm. This is the practice adopted by the corrupt Govt. official and to protect the corruption news, when asked under the RTI, the top officials lied stating the official was sacked for acquiring immovable property without prior permission.

Buying a property without informing the HOD is only an irregularity not illegal, not a ground for dismissal.
