Labour was going to home from place of work in company vehicle by self drive and on the way got accident and death. Vehicle was insured.

What are the liabilities of employer?

Employer is not liable. Because the employee was not on duty at the time of accident. His family can claim accident insurance.

It has been held in several cases that commuting from/to the place of residence to work station is to be reckoned as "during the course of employment".

No, I do not agree, the latest law is that while coming on duty and going to his home after duty is not comes with the ambit of " during the course of employment" under the Workman Compensation Act.
