Sir, some agriculture land was purchased by my grandfather, after his death it came in the name of my father who was the only son of my grandfather .Whether this will be treated as ancestral property or self acquired property for my father.

An ancestral property continues to be so wihtout reference to the number of generations. When it is partitioned amongst the heirs of the deceased who was hlding as Karta of the HUF, the property vests in equal proportion amongst all the heirs of the deceased- both male and female. while Male's share will be ancestral inrespect of his children, the share of the female would her self acquisition.
