This query is : Resolved
When a Victim in person discloses a cognizable offence to police, what is the scope of further enquiry in the matter by police ?
(Usually police defers the matter on account of enquiry even, when victim approaches in person)

Police is legally bound to lodge FIR on the complaint of such victim and initiates enquire thereafter. The attitude of police cannot be the matter of debate as every persons connected with legal system know it very well.

It depends upon Investigating Officer to see in which direction his enquiry goes. Merely lodging of FIR is not an enquiry. IO has to catch each and every clues to establish the motive, the preparations, the persons, the witnesses, the scene of occurrence, the medical report etc. etc. connected with crime disclosed by victim.
