you are counting your eggs before they are hatched .
you have appeared for main exams . if you qualify it will be followed by interview . depending upon your ranking you may get IFS or IRS or IAS or any other service .
wait for your results .

I hope you might have applied through proper channel and once you get selected, offer resignation which shall be only technical and then joint at new post which shall preserve as a pay protection.

Technical resignation is a resignation in which one resigns a particular designation but not the service as a whole. It is allowed only for those employees who are selected for other Govt job for which he applied through proper channel (intimation in case of UPSC exam). Such persons carry their eligibility of pension and gratuity etc to new post, even pay protection is pay is higher than the lowest pay of new post.
Mr Sethi is right you are counting your eggs befor ethey are hatched.
In case you have not intimated DRDO about appearing in the xamination you had done an irregularity not a very serious condonable by DRDO.

Technical resignation is applicable ONLY in case of a Government servant who has applied THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL for some other post in some other organisation of the Government.
Technical resignation is just a formality to end services on record with the previous organisation and to join a new organisation with full benefits of past service along with service benefits of the new organisation.
BUT, if not applied through proper channel all the benefits of past services are forfieted on resignation as the resignation is treated as a regular resignation to severe of the relations with the Government organisation.

Dear Naresh,
Wish you all success.
For the other matter it would be better if you take up only when you face any such problem.
I may however inform you that no such question about technical reason or counting of past service is likely to be raised during the process of interview. UPSC and the adminstration of the concerned department, where you are likely to be allocated, are well aware of the rules and orders on the issue.
