what is the punishment applicable for that?

No Punishment. It is not defamation because it is between the just two of you, hence no publication. However if it is sent to other people and it refers to you - it may be defamation. Even then the Supreme Court has held that mere abuse/insult does not amount to defamation. Courts have consistently said a mere abuse or insult is not defamation unless it leads to public disorder.
