Real nature of punishment for specific section

Dear Experts,
I understand that one has to bear upto 10 years and life imprisonment in section 307 case according to Indian Penal Code. But what is the real punishment as is practiced by judges in courts in terms of sentence in section 307 where no weapon has been used in section 307 case. Is it less than 10 years. Appreciate experiences answers. Thanks.
