Dear Rakesh,
Whether the property in the hands of the grandfather is his self-acquired property or ancestral property?

it is not self acquired property of grand father. But the ancestral property. And there are 3 sons and 3 grandsons. Will the grandsons have any right in this property?

what basis you say its ancestral property of grand father

on the basis that one of the grand son has got the share as heir so why not the others too?

So to clarify you further. The property belonged to the mother of the grand mother. In this way it was ancestral property. So here the generation is as :
Mother of grand mother --- Grand mother --- Son - grandson.
Now if there is no will by the mother of grandmother. Then does the grandson has any right in this property.

From your explanation, it is clear that it is not an ancestral property. Therefore the grandson has no rights in it.

Thanks so much from your reply and clarifying that property in the name of mother of grandmother from fathers's side is not the ancestral property of grandson.
Could you kindly clarify if there is anywhere in law where I can study as to what is the definition of ancestral property?
