You have to sworn an affidavit to change the name of your son, but if you want to change his name in the school records they may ask for the civil court order. It is in Karnataka.
If the school authorities asked for the decree then you will have to issue notice u/s 80 CPC to the Dist., Commissioner and Deputy Director of Public Instructions, then after lapse of two months you will have to file a suit.

since your son is only two years, you can change his name from the office of issue of your birth certificate,i.e either panchayath/municipality .
for this both the parents should apply together.
once you get a new birth certificate with the name changed, there is no further need of proceedures suggested above.
this is the procedure in Kerala.
anyhow it is better to check the rules/procedures in your state by visiting the office, either panchayath/municipality etc

Marvan may be name of either father or family and the first and last of the name you do intend to maintain; Please check up locally with Vizag Municipality and it should be simple as your son is just 2 years young only; He may start using as you like and thus, would be so known in practice and society; Your affidavit affirming the said change should be sufficient for getting initial admission for schooling with shorter name !
