Dear Sir/Madam, I am a final year law student, I just want to know that what are the procedures for getting enrolled as an advocate on record and also want to know that how is it beneficial to be an A.O.R. than others. Please guide as to shall I write that exam or is it sufficient even without being the Advocate-on-Record.

One has to have minimum 5 years experience (1 year under a senior) after enrolment with the Bar Council to sit for the Advocate on Record examination being conducted by the Supreme Court of India. If qualified in the said examination the Advocate would become an Advocate on Record. Most of the filings (except the ones where a person himself as a party files) in the Supreme Court is to be done only through the A.O.R. Thus, A.O.R. has a special place and role to play in the Supreme Court.
