tenant can be evicted only under due process of law. Duration of tenancy the tenant cannot be evicted. If the owner has given notice u/s 106 of Transfer of property act to vacate the premises for the reasons already agreed and also if time to vacate is over the owner has got chances to evict the tenant.

term 'protected tenant' is used under Tenancy Act but for premises it is called statutory tenant,so for which tenancy you are asking? But if you are asking about premises I have nothing to add to what my learned friends have said.

There is nothing called protected tenant. The law is no one , even a trespasser can be dispossessed without due process of law.
